Laborer

SUMMARY/JOB OBJECTIVE

 

The Laborer performs manual labor, as directed by the Pipelayers and Foremen, to assist in the installation of underground utilities, including storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains by performing any combination of the following tasks: digging trenches or culverts, laying pipe, performing dry utility work and site clean-up.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cut pipes to required lengths as directed.
  • Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.
  • Grade or level trench bases, using tamping machines or hand tools.
  • Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement.
  • Cover pipes with earth or other materials as required.
  • Identify blue stake colors for safe operation of equipment.
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, glue, or gaskets.
  • Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
  • Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
  • Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors.
  • Perform daily site clean-up.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED

 

  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in underground utility construction projects, or combination of education and experience necessary to meet the job requirements
  • OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid certified. OSHA Confined Space training, preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in safe operation of lasers, tamping machines, saws, and other hand or power tools necessary to meet job requirements
  • Ability to read, understand and work in conformity with work orders, as directed.
  • Knowledge of street and highway traffic rules and regulations, and safety precautions to be observed in working on or near highways.
  • Ability to detect unsafe or hazardous conditions of equipment and work environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety standards and Underground Facilities Law (Blue Stake, Arizona 811)
  • Must be able to pass random drug screens per company policy

Pipelayer

SUMMARY/JOB OBJECTIVE

 

The Pipelayer lays  and installs pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains by performing any combination of the following tasks: grading trenches or culverts, positioning pipe, sealing joints. Conforms with the company’s quality and safety standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install or repair sanitary or storm-water sewer structures or pipe systems.
  • Cut pipes to required lengths per layout and blueprints.
  • Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools.
  • Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement, using magnetic or radio indicators.
  • Use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, eye levels and transit levels to set appropriate grade for pipe installation.
  • Cover pipes with earth or other materials as required.
  • Identify & comply with blue stake Policy colors for safe operation of equipment around utilities
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, or glue.
  • Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
  • Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
  • Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors.
  • Grade or level trench bases, using tamping machines or hand tools.
  • Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.

 

Qualifications/Skills Required

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in underground utility construction projects, or combination of education and experience necessary to meet the job requirements
  • OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid certified, Confined Space Certified
  • Demonstrated skills in safe operation of lasers, tamping machines, saws, and other hand or power tools necessary to meet job requirements
  • Ability to read, understand and work in conformity with work orders, blueprints, construction plans and grade stakes.
  • Knowledge of street and highway traffic rules and regulations, and safety precautions to be observed in working on or near highways.
  • Ability to detect unsafe or hazardous conditions of equipment and work environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety standards and Underground Facilities Law (Blue Stake, Arizona 811)
  • Must be able to pass Kinkaid Pipelayer Aptitude Test
  • Must be able to pass random drug screens per company policy

Heavy Equipment Operators

SUMMARY/JOB OBJECTIVE

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment used in the construction of the Company’s underground utility projects, including sanitation sewers, storm-water systems, and water mains.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Operates a variety of heavy equipment used in the construction and repair of underground utilities to include: front-end loaders, trucks, bulldozers, graders, excavators, backhoes, skid steers.

·         Operates equipment in a safe and appropriate manner, ensuring proper machine start-up, operation and shut-down

·         Performs daily cleaning, inspection, maintenance and safety checks of equipment to include inspection of: tires, lights, brakes, fuses and fluid levels, and general operating condition

·         Completes and maintains daily equipment inspection forms

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED

§  High school diploma or equivalent

§  Minimum one to three year’s prior experience operating heavy equipment, or similar, in a heavy civil construction environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience required to meet the job requirements

§  Demonstrated experience with operating 18,000lb equipment and above, required.

§  Knowledge of street and highway traffic rules and regulations, and safety precautions to be observed in working on or near highways and in busy urban areas.

§  Thorough knowledge of safety standards and Underground Facilities Law (Blue Stake, Arizona 811)

§  OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid certifications

§  Must have insurable driver record and able to pass random drug tests per company policy

§  Must be able to pass Kinkaid Operator Field Evaluation

Project Superintendent

SUMMARY

 

The Civil Superintendent manages the day to day operations of the company’s underground utility projects-managing schedules, vendors, subcontractors and personnel.  The foreman ensures that the project is completed within timelines and budget, with adherence to the company’s quality and safety standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualifications/Skills Required

 

§  High school diploma or equivalent

§  Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction projects, or combination of education and experience necessary to meet the job requirements.

§  OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid certified within 60 Days of Employment

§  Must have current driver’s license and insurable motor vehicle record.

§  Must be able to pass random drug screens per company policy

§  When supervising workers engaged in several company roles, employee is required to be knowledgeable in all activities involved.

§  Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in the construction of buildings, highways and/or roads.

§  Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principals involved in the production of precision plans, drawings and models.

§  Directing the work force under own control, including planning, organizing and redistributing work.

§  Ability to read, understand and work in conformity with work orders, blueprints, construction plans and grade stakes.

§  Knowledge of street and highway traffic rules and regulations, and safety precautions to be observed in working on or near highways.
